Detailed AvaTrade Review

AvaTrade is a multinational global asset trading platform available to investors around the world (*but not available in the United States). AvaTrade allows you to trade foreign exchange (FX), commodities, global shares, bonds among other markets. AvaTrade was created in 2006 as a combined effort of financial professionals and experts in web-commerce with the goal of perfecting the online experience for retail customers. Within a few short years, AvaTrade has expanded rapidly, with over 200,000 registered customers globally executing more than two million trades valued over $60 billion per month.

Headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, Ava is a multi-national company with regional offices and sales centers in Paris, Milan, Tokyo, Sydney, and elsewhere. Whether you are an experienced trader or a novice, AvaTrade's adaptable trading platforms and services provide you with the right balance of simplicity and sophistication, earning the company multiple industry awards since 2009.

In this review, we’ll focus on AvaTradeAct, which is Ava’s proprietary web trading platform. We will also go over Ava’s in-house options trading platform as well as its interface with the popular MetaTrader 4 (MT4) trading platform.

Login - When you’re ready to log in, enter your username (which is your email address) and password.


AvaTrade - My Account - AvaTrade lets you trade with multiple accounts across multiple platforms. In this tutorial we will cover the AvaTradeAct, AvaOptions, and MetaTrader 4 (MT4) web platforms. Under the My Accounts tab you’ll see all of your open accounts, which platform they're on, and whether they are live or demo accounts. Click the green Deposit button to fund your accounts, or the + Add Account button on the top right to add more accounts. When you’re ready to trade, click to download or launch the web trading platforms. If you need to speak with someone for help or customer service, click on the Live Chat button to the right or call the customer service number listed.

AvaTrade - Deposit - To deposit funds to your accounts, click on the Deposit link. You can fund your account with a credit card or a direct wire transfer from your bank. Depending on how much you deposit, you may also be rewarded with welcome bonus funds for first-time users. When you need to make a withdrawal, click on Withdraw Funds.

AvaTrade - Upload Documents - In order to verify your account for live trading, you will be required to upload a copy of a valid ID as well as bank verification if you intend to fund your account via wire.


AvaTradeAct - Overview - AvaTradeAct is Ava’s proprietary web trading platform. When you first log in, you will see the main Overviewscreen, showing some popular market prices. Those include everything from currency pairs and commodities to equities to Bitcoin futures. Hover over any box and click the "X" on the top right to hide that asset. To trade, simply click on any of the asset prices. The blue menu bar across the top of the window displays your current account balances, net profit and loss, and margin use.

AvaTradeAct - New Position - When you’re ready to place a trade, simply click on any asset price in the Overview and an order ticket will pop up titled New Position. Enter the price and quantity you are interested in buying or selling and click on Submit to place the trade.

AvaTradeAct - Positions & Orders - After you’ve placed a trade, it will appear in the segmented Positions & Orders box. Find the white up-arrow icon in the center of the bottom of the screen and click on it to expand the box. The Positions tab displays all of your current positions. Click on Stop, Loss, or Hedge to enter orders that will close or reduce your position if the price changes to a specified level. Click on Close to close out your position as a market order.

AvaTradeAct - Orders - Do you need to cancel or modify an open order? Click on the Orders tab in the box to view your open orders and do what you need to do.

AvaTradeAct - Closed Positons - When you want to see your old trades that have been closed out, click on the Closed Positions tab in the box. A history of your closed positions appears here along with the P&L.

AvaTradeAct - Settings - Favorites - If you’re not interested in the markets shown by default on the Overview screen or would like to customize it to fit your tastes, click on the Settings icon shaped like a gear in the upper right hand corner and choose the Favorites tab. Here you can add or remove assets on your Overview screen with a simple click. If you change your mind, you can click on Return to Defaultin the Settings window to restore the default list.

AvaTradeAct - Settings - Trading - In the Settings menu, you can also change your basic settings for when you enter trades. Click on the Trading tab to alter these.


AvaOptions - Overview - AvaOptions is Ava’s FX options trading platform. When you sign on to AvaOptions, you will be taken to the Reporttab. This screen allows you to generate a number of different reports, such as trading and P&L reports for your options account. Select the dropdown menu titled Select Report to choose which report you’d like and then the date. Click Get Report to generate the document.

AvaOptions - Report - After you’ve chosen your report, it will appear in a new window.

AvaOptions - Order - When you’re ready to place an options order, click on the Order tab. Here you will see an order ticket. First, choose your currency pair from the Product dropdown menu. Next, enter the quantity and then choose the expiration date from the Expiry Datedropdown. Input the strike price, whether it is a call or a put option, and the order type. If it is a limit or stop order, you will then also input the limit and stop prices. Click on the Prices link just under the order ticket to load the current bid/ask for the option you want; it will appear in a box to the right. Click on Execute when you’re ready to make the trade.

AvaOptions - Order Confirmation - Before your order executes, you’ll have a chance to review the trade details to make sure everything is correct. If it is, click on Execute. Otherwise, click on Back to make changes or start over. When your orders are filled, they will appear in the positions box below the order ticket.

AvaOptions - Profile - If you need to update your profile information – maybe you’ve changed your address or phone number – click on the Profile tab to take care of that.

AvaOptions - Information - FX options trading is an advanced strategy and carries a number of unique risks. Having a good understanding of this market is key for success. Click on the Information tab for links to a number of useful resources, disclosures, and external links for this market.

MetaTrader - Overview - Meta Trader 4 (MT4) is a foreign exchange (FX) trading platform. Here you can trade a wide of range of currency pairs using sophisticated technical analysis and charting tools. On the left is the MarketWatch, which is a list of available trading pairs. To the right is the chart window, and below is the Toolbox where you can view your trades and order history. If you need assistance at any point, see the Help menu along the top menu bar.

MetaTrader - Symbols - Although AvaTrade is known for FX trading, you can access a range of other products, such as commodities, indices, and global equities, using the Symbols icon along the menu bar.

MetaTrader - Charts - MT4 web has a useful set of charting tools for you to deploy. You can also trade directly from the chart using the quick order entry box to easily buy and sell.

MetaTrader - Orders - When you’re ready to place an order, you can open a detailed order ticket window by double-clicking on a symbol in the MarketWatch table on the left. Enter the order type, price, and quantity and you’re ready to go. Completed and open trades will appear in the Toolbox window below. If you want to avoid confirming trades in the future, you can turn on one-click trading. Find this under Options, One-Click Trading on the menu along the top of the screen.

MetaTrader - Trade History - If you want to see how your trades have worked out, look to the box below the charts. Here you’ll find a Tradetab with your current positions. Click on the "X" icon to the right of a trade to close the position. You can also view your current account balance and margin level.
